5 Best Covid friendly Christmas party ideas in Sydney

Updated 19th Oct 2020

2020 has been a very different year for everyone globally and has specifically changed how businesses have operated. Fast forward to Spring 2020 and we all start to realise that Christmas is on it's way and how much we'd love to get together to see the year out (finally) and feel a bit of normality!

December is Christmas party season but Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said that end-of-year celebrations in NSW should be held under the existing social distancing restrictions, so we shouldn't plan for more than 30 people to attend.

"My expectation is that everybody plans ahead based on the existing health orders. We can't give any commitment of guarantee beyond that," she said
"I would ask everybody to assume the current health orders will be in place, that's the worst-case scenario."

With the current Covid restrictions in NSW meaning we can only gather in groups of 30 or less outside in a public place and venue operators must generally ensure there are at least four square metres of space for each person on the premises; it's time to get creative.

Here are our top ideas for a Christmas party in Sydney, NSW this year:

1.Virtual Christmas Party

Much like your birthday celebrations, Friday night wine down (oops we meant wind down) and any other team building event held this year, a virtual Christmas party is the safest way to go. Team Days has got you covered with some really cool options for a virtual event this year including our favourite - cooking with a masterchef!

2. Team picnic

It wouldn't be a Pretty as a picnic ideas board without the suggestion of a picnic. We can host up to 30 people and pop up and any location in Sydney so which gorgeous vista will you choose? If you want something a bit more low key than our luxury affair, why not do a BYO picnic event and each bring a dish, a blanket and some games for a true Aussie Summer Party!

3. Boat party

As long as the boat is large enough to host your party in a socially distanced manor you can celebrate in style this year with a trip around our beautiful harbour. Get in quick though since we have a feeling this could be a sold out option soon!

4. Scavenger hunt

Enjoy a team event with a competitive edge? Organise a treasure hunt around the city and keep groups small to make social distancing easy. Sydney Amazing Race has done a lot of the hard work for you so everyone can enjoy this fantastic way to see more of the city we live in.

5. Beach Olympics

Another one for the more competitive teams among us. Head to a wide empty beach and get creative with some sports day style activities like the classic egg and spoon or sack race to get the blood pumping and I'm sure a few laughs!

So there you go, hopefully one of those helps your office have a blast this holiday season and end the year on a high!

Merry Christmas (too soon?!)
